Gauge and micron are both measurements of polythene film thickness – 100 gauge equals 25 micron. Lighter gauges (100-120 gauge) suit general purpose and light product applications. Medium gauges (150-200 gauge) are used for heavier products and more demanding applications. Heavy gauges (250 gauge and above) are used for industrial applications, pallet hoods, and box liners where strength and tear resistance are critical. Grip seal bags are available in a comprehensive range of sizes from very small (suitable for jewellery and small parts) through to large A3-size bags. Standard sizes are referenced by number (e.g. GL01, GL02) and also by millimetre dimensions. We stock the full range and can supply size guides on request. Lay flat tubing is polythene tubing supplied in a roll, supplied flat. It is cut to the required length and sealed at one or both ends using a heat sealer to create a custom-length bag. It is particularly useful for wrapping long, awkward, or irregularly shaped items where standard bag sizes are not available. It is widely used in manufacturing, engineering, and distribution for protecting pipes, profiles, timber, and other extended items.
Centrefold shrink film is polythene film folded in half lengthways and supplied on a roll. The product is placed inside the fold and the open edges are sealed, then heat is applied – either using a heat shrink chamber or a gas shrink gun – which causes the film to shrink tightly around the product. It is used for retail presentation, multipacks, and product protection. The width of the film you need depends on the size of the product being wrapped.
