Polypropylene (PP) strapping is the most common and cost-effective strapping material, suited to light to medium-weight loads such as cartons and general freight. It has more elongation and lower break strength than polyester. Polyester (PET) strapping offers higher break strength, lower elongation, and better recovery after tensioning – making it more suitable for heavy palletised loads, building materials, and applications where load shift could loosen polypropylene strap. Polyester is also available in embossed, woven, and composite grades for specialist applications.
Steel strapping is used where maximum break strength and minimal elongation are required – typically for very heavy loads such as steel coils, timber, bricks, concrete products, and heavy industrial freight. It is also used where sharp load edges could cut plastic strap, or where loads are stored outdoors in extreme conditions. Steel strapping requires dedicated steel strapping tools and seals and is heavier to work with than plastic alternatives, but provides unmatched tensile strength for the most demanding applications.
The consumables you need depend on your strap type and tool. For polypropylene and polyester strapping, you need either open seals (used with a separate sealer tool), snap-on seals (applied by hand), or lap-over seals. For steel strapping, galvanised open seals or serrated seals are used with a steel strapping tool. Battery-powered friction weld tools for PP and PET strap do not require seals as they weld the strap to itself. Our team can advise on the correct seal type for your strap width and tool combination.
Manual strapping tools require the operator to apply physical force to tension and seal the strap – either using a separate tensioner and sealer, or a combination tool. They are suitable for lower volume applications and are lower cost. Battery-powered strapping tools automate the tensioning, sealing, and cutting process at the press of a button, significantly reducing operator effort and increasing speed. They are best suited to medium to high volume operations where consistency and throughput are important. We supply battery tools for both polypropylene and polyester strap.
The correct strap width depends on your load weight and the tool or machine you are using. As a general guide – 9mm strap suits light cartons and small packages; 12mm is the most common width for general purpose strapping of cartons and light pallets; 15-16mm suits heavier pallets and larger loads; 19mm and above is used for very heavy or industrial loads. For machine strapping, the machine specifies the strap width. Our team can advise on the right width for your application and confirm compatibility with your existing tools or machines.
Yes – we stock spare parts and replacement components for the strapping tool brands we carry. If you need a specific spare part for a tool purchased from us, contact our team with the tool model and the part required and we will advise on availability.
