Common questions about our pallet wrap and wrapping range.
Hand pallet wrap is designed to be applied manually by an operator walking around the pallet. It is typically wound onto a core that can be held by hand or used with a hand wrap dispenser. Machine pallet wrap is designed for use with turntable or robotic pallet wrapping machines – it is supplied in larger roll lengths, often with a narrower core diameter, and is engineered to work with the machine’s film carriage and pre-stretch system. Using hand wrap on a machine or vice versa can result in poor performance or film breakage – contact our team to confirm the correct film for your machine.
Gauge refers to the thickness of the stretch film, typically measured in microns. Lighter gauges (10-15 micron) suit lighter loads and general purpose wrapping. Standard gauges (17-23 micron) are the most widely used for everyday pallet wrapping across a range of load weights. Heavier gauges (25 micron and above) are used for heavier, more irregular, or sharper-edged loads where puncture resistance is more important. Higher-performance pre-stretch films can achieve the same load containment at a lower micron by stretching further before application. Our team can advise on the right specification for your load type.
Breathable pallet wrap – also called perforated stretch film – has small holes punched through the film that allow air to circulate through the wrapped pallet. It is used for fresh produce, flowers, plants, and other perishable or temperature-sensitive goods that need to breathe during storage or transit. It still provides the load containment and stability benefits of standard stretch film, but without trapping heat and moisture inside the wrap that could cause condensation or spoilage.
Pre-stretch pallet wrap has already been stretched during manufacturing – typically by 70-150% – before being wound onto the roll. Because the film is already elongated, each roll covers a greater surface area than standard film of the same weight, meaning fewer rolls are used per pallet. Pre-stretch film also applies with less physical effort since the operator or machine doesn’t need to stretch the film as much during wrapping. It is particularly cost-effective for high-volume machine wrapping operations.
A dispenser is not strictly required for hand pallet wrap, but it significantly improves efficiency and consistency. A hand wrap dispenser holds the roll and applies controlled tension as the film is applied, resulting in a more consistent wrap, less film waste, and reduced operator fatigue. Extended core rolls are designed specifically for use with dispensers. For operations wrapping more than a few pallets per day, a dispenser is a worthwhile addition to the packing area.
Spiral wrap is a stretch film used with horizontal orbital wrapping machines to wrap and secure long products such as pipes, timber, and profiles. Using a spiral wrapping technique, the film provides even coverage and consistent tension across the full length of the product, securing the load and protecting it during storage and transit. It is available in a range of gauges including standard and nano films, and in a choice of core sizes to suit different orbital wrapping machines. Both automatic and semi-automatic machines are supported.

Ventamac supplies Irish businesses with a comprehensive range of pallet wrap and wrapping products – from standard hand pallet wrap and machine stretch film, to breathable perforated wrap, handy mini rolls, spiral wrap, and hand wrap dispensers. All lines are stocked in Ireland for fast availability with next day delivery on key products nationwide.
Our hand pallet wrap range covers standard and extended core rolls in a range of gauges and colours, suitable for hand wrapping with or without a dispenser. Machine pallet wrap is available in standard and pre-stretch grades designed for use with turntable pallet wrappers and robotic wrapping systems. Pre-stretch film delivers greater coverage per roll and reduced film consumption compared to standard machine film.
Breathable pallet wrap provides the load containment of standard stretch film with the added benefit of air circulation through the perforated film – making it ideal for fresh produce, floristry, and temperature-sensitive goods. Handy wrap mini rolls suit bundling and securing smaller loads and individual items without reaching for a full-size pallet roll.
Pallet wrap dispensers improve the consistency and efficiency of hand wrapping, reducing film waste and operator fatigue. Spiral wrap provides protective covering for cables, pipes, and hoses during storage and transit. We also supply pallet wrapping machines from Robopac and Optimax – meaning film and equipment are available from the same account. Trade accounts with credit facilities are available for qualifying businesses.
